I have no idea who St. Francis of Assisi is or was but I came across this prayer (The prayer of St. Francis of Assisi) in one of my random reads and decided to make it my prayer for this week….and even after;
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
When you think about it, this prayer is pretty much asking God to make us more like himself; selfless, compassionate and loving.
…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. – 2Chron 7:14
