I have this friend. I remember the day I met him. *insert laugh* I’m laughing because I don’t think I remember where or when I met some of the friends I have. Somehow everyone becomes friends with everyone. This one however, I remember.
When I was upcountry, this particular weekend, my friends were coming over for my birthday. That year, I had decided that I wouldn’t travel back to the city (Kampala) for it and I’d just stay
in the village and have my friends come over, well I honestly didn’t think they would. lol. I remember when I asked them to and their ‘YEESSSS!’ response had me confused cz to be honest, I hadn’t really through through the whole thing…travel, accommodation, finances, etc. But when they agreed, well I planned. And it happened, they came…got on the bus…9 of them on the same bus, some for the first time; came camped on my floor (I had to borrow sleeping bags from a friend with a tours & travel company…I had only met him a week before, I didn’t think I’d need his services that soon…how he trusted me, I’ll never know) …..that turned out to be one of the best birthdays I’ve actually had.
When the bus arrived, I had my roll call list in mind and saw everyone who I knew was coming…and then two more. Brian and Macklyn. I knew Brian from long ago primary school, so it was a pleasant reunion. I didn’t know Macklyn. This post is about Macklyn; that is the day I met him. Instantly we became acquainted, cz well, he was going to be staying in my house and was here for my party…..we’ve been friends since.
Every Monday morning on his Facebook timeline, Macklyn posts a prayer for the week. And no, it’s not one of those chain things asking people to type Amen for a blessing or share / forward to a million people or die in 6 days *
I rolled my eyes just after typing that* or anything of the sort, just a prayer for whoever comes across it to read it. I have been reading (and saying) these prayers every week since the day I discovered he does this. Most times, if not each time, they are spot on. At the end of each one of them, one can’t help but feel sorted. Somehow either through petition or thanksgiving or both, you get to feel like you’ve entrusted your week with the giver of all weeks. The knower of all things. The one who’s got a master plan for all days.
This week, I asked him if I could share this week’s prayer on my blog. He gave me a huge green light because, and I quote, ‘prayer is always meant to be shared’. 🙂 So here it is, this week’s prayer from my friend, Macklyn…word for word, unchanged. If this is the only prayer you say this week, may it be this.. 🙂
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You for this week. I thank You for my being able to awake once again, to see, and to hear this morning and the week ahead.
I’m blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God.
You have done so much for me and You continue to bless me.
Please forgive me every day for anything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to You, and I ask now for Your forgiveness.
Please keep me safe from all danger and harm.
Help me to start this day/week with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude.
Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things.
Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over.
Let me continue to see sin through Your eyes and acknowledge it as evil.
And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and receive Your forgiveness.
And when this world closes in on me, let me remember the example of Jesus — to slip away and find a quiet place to pray.
It is the best response when I’m pushed beyond my limits.
Continue to use me to do Your will.
Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others.
Keep me strong that I may help the weak.
Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others.
I pray for those who are lost and can’t find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don’t know You intimately. I pray for those who don’t believe, and I thank you that You are in my heart and that I do believe and have true faith in You.
I believe that You change people and You can change all things.
I pray for all my sisters and brothers, and for each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love, and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.
I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than You. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly.
This is my prayer… and I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, Amen
Love and Love!
Prayer is communication with the Divine. It can be whispered or chanted or written or expressed in the work you do. However it is expressed, it is never in vain.
