Last Sunday, I went to a different church from my usual; not because I am changing church but because for the last ten weeks, I was doing a life class, a program by Mavuno church, called Mizizi. Mizizi means roots. A foundation. It’s a class that helps one align ones life with God’s purpose for it. And last Sunday, we graduated from that class; so I worshiped at Mavuno. First time. I do have friends that go there regularly but I’d never been…mainly because I’m a hymns kinda person. I love my classics. And yes, it is well with my soul.
I loved Mizizi. I met new people, I can gladly say I made new friends. At year start, I had no idea I would take the class, but one day, I saw a flyer on twitter and thought to myself, I should do this. The ten weeks went by faster than I thought. I looked forward to each week, the sharing, just seeing the people and then the lessons. You can read about the class and other classes that Mavuno runs, here.
So the sermon on Sunday….well, they have a series going on for April called #HeroesWanted. I think each month, they have a different series / theme. It was beautiful! It was about doing stuff, believing WE can do stuff….being super heroes because Greater is HE that is in US! HE makes all things possible and qualifies us to do things; to transform the world. Being fearless. It was power really. I would want to listen to pastor Muriithi more. He speaks so passionately about God and purpose. He also authored the Mizizi program so it was an honor to have him around for graduation.
In his sermon, he told us a story he’d read somewhere about what it’d have been like if Jesus had consulted an HR firm to recruit the disciples. It’s amazing how, by HR standards, they were completely unqualified, and yet, HE chose them and qualified them.
I looked for the story and I think you’ll love it as well.

We feel that it is our duty to tell you that Matthew had been blacklisted by the Greater Jerusalem Better Business Bureau; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus definitely have radical leanings, and they both registered a high score on the manic-depressive scale.
One of the candidates, however, shows great potential. He is a man of ability and resourcefulness, meets people well, has a keen business mind, and has contacts in high places. He is highly motivated, ambitious, and responsible. We recommend Judas Iscariot as your controller and right-hand man. All of the other profiles are self-explanatory.
